Modular and stackable | Ultra-quiet operation | Powered by USB or battery – ideal for use in a safe

What is a watch winder and when is it useful?

A watch winder keeps automatic watches in motion when they are not being worn. This preserves the power reserve and prevents functions such as the date, day of the week, or moon phase from needing to be reset regularly.

This is particularly beneficial for high-quality automatic watches or models with complications. Without regular movement, the watch will stop and often requires time-consuming adjustment before it can be worn again.

A watch winder is therefore particularly useful for owners of multiple watches or collectors who do not want to switch their timepieces daily. It ensures that each watch remains ready to wear at any time.

Whether a watch winder is necessary in an individual case depends on personal wearing habits. Those who wear their watch regularly do not necessarily need one. For everyone else, it offers a convenient and gentle solution.

Anyone who wants to explore the question in more detail of whether a watch winder makes sense will find a comprehensive explanation in our guide.

High-quality watch winder with a minimalist design

Our watch winder combines quality and design, perfectly tailored to the requirements of automatic watches. The robust cast aluminum housing supports even heavy watches effortlessly, while the durable direct drive ensures silent and reliable operation.

The elegant, cubic watch winder can be used as a stand-alone unit or, thanks to its modular concept, can be expanded as required to keep several watches in motion at the same time. An integrated rail system enables a secure mechanical connection and central power supply for up to nine stacked units.

Simple and intuitive operation

The watch winder is as simple as it is well-thought-out: With a single button you can choose from nine rotation programs (600 to 1,800 revolutions per day) and three movement modes:

  1. Clockwise
  2. Counterclockwise
  3. Alternating directions of rotation

A discreet LED display informs you of the current operating status at all times.

Your automatic watch is inserted or removed using a reliable locking mechanism that can be adapted to all strap types and sizes thanks to the spring clamp and adjustment mechanism.

Quiet usage - also suitable for quiet rooms

The high-quality direct drive ensures pleasantly quiet operation. It can even be used in the bedroom. Even in absolutely silent environments, we were unable to detect any operating noise from a distance of 50 cm.

Flexible energy supply - for use in safe

The BOTTA watch winder offers maximum flexibility: you can either use battery power (approx. 4 months' runtime) or the micro USB cable supplied. Battery operation also makes the device ideal for use in safes or vaults. If you connect several modules via the rail system, a single USB cable is sufficient to supply all units with power. Operation is extremely quiet – almost silent – and the watch is always reliably stopped in the 12 o'clock position.

Modular and expandable – watch winders for multiple watches

Our watch winders feature an intelligent stacking function. Connecting strips on the top and bottom of the BOTTA Cube watch winder enable simple and secure coupling. Up to nine devices can be connected vertically, both mechanically and electrically, to form a tower. As a rule, one power supply unit is sufficient for this, provided that the power output is adequate.

Cubes placed next to each other each require their own power supply (see diagram). A matching complete set consisting of a power supply unit and cables is available as an option.

FAQ about watch winders

A watch winder is not strictly necessary, but it can make everyday use of an automatic watch significantly more convenient. Especially for watches with a date or other complications, it is beneficial when the watch is ready to wear the next time you want to use it. For people who rotate between multiple automatic watches, a watch winder provides organization, convenience, and ensures a reliable state of the watch.

Generally speaking, yes. Most automatic watches benefit from regular movement. However, it is important that the watch winder has appropriate rotation programs to optimally support different movements. The user manual for your watch should include the correct settings for use in a watch winder.

Yes, battery-powered models in particular are ideal for use inside a safe. Since no external power source is required, the watch winder can be operated flexibly and independently. A power outlet inside the safe always provides an additional point of vulnerability that could be exploited to break into the safe.

The noise level depends heavily on the quality of the motor. High-quality watch winders operate almost silently and can be used without any issues even in quiet environments such as bedrooms.

The quiet direct-drive motor in the BOTTA watch winder ensures smooth and quiet operation.

Most watch manufacturers include the recommended direction and frequency of winding in their user manuals. Alternatively, you can search online for the caliber of your watch; there are lists available that provide the necessary settings for virtually every caliber.

The optimal amount of movement depends on the movement. Generally, 600 to 1,800 rotations per day are sufficient to maintain the power reserve without putting unnecessary strain on the movement. Please refer to the user manual for your automatic watch for more information.
