DLC stands for “Diamond-Like Carbon” and refers to carbon coatings with diamond-like properties. One term therefore describes the manufacturing process, while the other describes a type of coating material.
The coatings used on our black components are only a few micrometres thick. This preserves fine contours and carefully worked case details.
Depending on the version, components such as the bezel, case, crown and clasp are coated; on black metal bracelets, the corresponding bracelet components are coated as well.

This story is a specific experience from within our own family. It shows how a black BOTTA can perform in real everyday use. How any watch ages depends on the individual stresses it is exposed to; even a durable surface can be damaged.
Overall, our many years of experience with black coatings have been very positive. Signs of wear can occur particularly where exposed areas come into contact with hard or abrasive materials.
The strap has a significant influence on the character of a watch. A black PVD-coated metal bracelet continues the dark design of the case and increases the proportion of black on the wrist.

Actual durability depends on the coating system, the component and the stresses it is exposed to. BOTTA has many years of positive experience with the black coatings we use.
Strong mechanical stress can damage or wear through even a firmly bonded coating. Our experience shows a high level of durability in normal use. In the event of specific damage, we inspect the affected parts and advise you on repair options.
Individual components can be replaced by BOTTA, for example a damaged bezel or bracelet clasp. We will discuss with you personally which solution makes the most sense for your watch.
