Sun-synchronous time display

A day has 24 hours, not 12. Following this simple yet compelling logic, the UNO 24 displays the entire day at a glance.

The dial of the UNO 24 is divided, just like a day on Earth, into a bright daytime half and a dark nighttime half. The hour hand moves in sync with the sun across the sky: in the morning it rises from the dark nighttime half into the bright daytime half, at noon it reaches the zenith of the dial, in the evening it descends back into the dark nighttime half, and at midnight it crosses the fine date line. The date then marks the new day. This “sun-synchronous” form of time display also ensures absolute clarity in the representation of time.

The new form of time display – with astronomical logic

Behind the extraordinary time display of the UNO 24 Automatic lies a logic that is as simple as it is compelling.

An Earth day has 24 hours – just like the UNO 24 Automatic. Just as a day is divided into a daytime half and a nighttime half, the dial of this full-day watch is also split into a bright and a dark half. The movement of the hour hand mirrors the path of the sun: in the morning it rests on the horizon, at noon it reaches the top of the dial, in the evening it returns to the horizon, and at night it moves across the lower half. When the fine date line is crossed at midnight, the date display also advances, marking the beginning of a new day.

At BOTTA, we call this natural way of displaying time “sun-synchronous.” The three-dimensional dial of the UNO 24 immediately draws attention with its refined details. The contrasting quadrants at 0 – 6 – 12 – and 18 hours simplify quick orientation. The elaborate single hour hand, combined with the precise 24-hour scale and 10-minute markers, ensures surprisingly good legibility.
