UNO one-hand watch from Botta-Design – the original

A statement in favour of a relaxed approach to time: back in 1986, the designer Klaus Botta developed the UNO, the first one-hand watch of the modern era. Thanks to its one-hand principle, the wearer can intuitively tell the time more quickly than with any other watch. This is because of the way the time display is reduced to the absolute essentials. It is one of the great paradoxes of the modern world: watches that are accurate to the nearest second turn us into clock-watching slaves. They tempt us to leave everything to the very last second – deadlines, meetings, transport connections. As a result, we feel stressed and obsessed about keeping everything under control rather than calm and relaxed. We have become used to making everything complicated – and have forgotten how to keep everything simple. A clear explanation of the twelve-hour one-hand principle can be found here.

UNO: the first one-hand wristwatch
keeps an old promise

In a world that is becoming increasingly fast-paced and confusing, and that constantly demands more and more from the individual, the UNO one-hand watch becomes more contemporary every day! This is because the one-hand watch gives its wearer back the freedom which watches once promised: namely the freedom to tell the time intuitively and focus on periods of time rather than specific moments. This is why Klaus Botta designs watches according to his own interpretation of the Bauhaus principle: form follows function(s). The function of the watch is to show the time – and all it needs to provide this essential information is precisely one hand, like in a speedometer. And who would ever think of adding a second hand to a speedometer?
